Kurri Kurri- Richmond Vale Rail & Mining Museum

Kurri Kurri - Richmond Vale Rail & Mining Museum - Richmond Main is an abandoned mine which operated from 1910 to 1967. Today, it is a steam railway and mining museum. During its operating life, there were 54 lives lost from accidents and mistakes. In 1922, a mine shaft which can travel 300 feet underground, and is preserved today, was taking five miners down to the bottom of the pit. Its cable snapped when the shaft cage was still 200 feet from the ground. All the miners lost there lives (the records of the incident still exist). Today, about five out of ten people who visit the museum, and have had a look at the abandon shaft, say that they feel very sad. Some say they can hear the sounds of people yelling out, as if they are falling. Also, strange things happen to some of the steam locomotives preserved at the museum. Some of the drivers have said that various controls on the loco's N o. 30 go haywire. A former South Maitland Railway's loco is the engine that has strange things done to it. The throttle will be fully open for the locomotive to move, when the drivers have left it in the closed position. There are also incidents where there the driver, the fireman or both are in the cab, and the engine's whistle will be pulled right in front of them, without either of them pulling the whistle cord. It is said to be a sprit of the former manager, Mr. John Brown, who died there in 1930 (cause of death not known). He has been seen early in the morning, firing off the steam loco for a days run. Two museum members have seen him, and they refused to ever work in that area ever again. Mr. Brown is seen on the third Sunday of each month, five out of ten times

Tomago House 'Hunter Valley' New South Wales Australia

Tomago House

421 Tomago Road, Tomago, 2322.

Australia.

Open - Sundays 9.30am - 3.30pm

Brief outline of the property :

Built by barrister Richard Windeyer, Tomago House formed the nucleus of what was, in the mid 19th century, a vast agricultural estate and the country residence of one of the nation’s leading politico-legal figures.

Work on the house started in the early 1840s. The vineyard was established, with plantings from James King of Irrawang, who was known to be producing good wines by 1840. Windeyer died in 1847, leaving his wife Maria to complete the property, refinance it and maintain viability. This she did, adding to it with a Chapel built in 1860-1861. Maria’s interest in the property is thought to have continued after her death, with inexplicable sightings of an elderly woman rocking in her chair on the verandah, and keeping a watchful eye in the cellars.

Tomago House is noted for its fine verandahs looking over pastoral land; interiors which reflected the lives and times of a family of status – and a social history which spans three generations.

Sunday 8th May 2011

I have wanted to visit this place for a while now and as it was Mothers day it was my choice on where to go :)

Pulling up to the homestead it felt lovely and inviting, several trees where dotted around the property it felt very private and off the main road.

Walking into the hallway was glorious the sun was shining through the square dome into the center of the property the features from the door to the chandelier it was something quite special.

The one thing that i was surprised at was there was no smell of oldness which seemed to be the norm with older style homes i did catch a little walking into to one of the bedrooms.

The bathroom was very green and tiled which dated back to the 1950s.
The ballroom was very pretty it had a lovely outlook onto the verandah and the gardens.

We went up into the attic which was where several bedrooms where the children/servants slept. There was also access onto the dome which was not for the general public to access.

We then proceeded outside to where the cellar was located i was told the National Trust did Ghost Hunts down there at certain times of the year! It was cool and not as smelly as i thought it would be! It would have been very dark with no lights on, it did give you the fun house affect when walking down the stairs as they where wonky. The lady said it was the same size the cellar as the top of the house so it was a big area. It was where they housed big barrels of wine.

Cellar

We was left on our own to explore the nooks and crannies and there was at one point i felt i could not get passed a certain point near the end but i made myself move forward to be able to get the pictures. The ceilings where quite low but not to low to feel inclosed as such. As we was walking out of the cellar it did sound as if someone was walking behind us but at that same time someone was walking above us, so it made sense to me it was just noise traveling down from upstairs.

Chapel

Before leaving the property i went to look at the Chapel which was very pretty and small but could not gain access.

A fantastic property that is worth the drive there to see and contribute to its up keep for generations to come.

I don't blame Maria for sticking around after she passed away as its a beautiful outlook sitting on the verandah :)
Would love to hear of anyone who has been here and what your thoughts where of the property.

Thank you for reading :)

Oakhampton Cemetery 1849-1896

We ventured out yesterday afternoon to find the Oakhapmton Cemetery and I quite sad with what we came across. This cemetery was opened 51 years after Australia was discovered, this is a land mark that is not being appreciated or being looked after. This is our history!
This cemetery was flooded in the Maitland flood in 1950's and a lot of the headstones have sunk and the writing on the headstones have faded.

My Paranormal Journey

I have always been interested in the paranormal for as long as i can remember, i think my first experience was when i was about 7 years old and i woke up and saw a figure of a lady in front of my wardrobe. I remember looking at the figure and thinking "wow" not feeling scared and rolling back over and going back to sleep.
Over the years i have always had experiences and being such a logical person i explained most things away, but it does get to the point that you start to think mmmmm maybe there is a lot more happening then what we realise.
It's just been in the last year or so my cousin Lisa and i have started to do our own investigations and have had quiet a few experiences that can not be explained away, we've caught some amazing photo's and just recently caught our first grade A grade EVP.

Lisa and i go to the location open minded but still very sceptical to what ever experience we may have or capture…..

Here is too many more great locations, experience and stories to tell.
